THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD
New Perspectives on The Crucifixion of Jesus, Apocalypse, and Anthropology
Monday evenings, October 24 - November 21
Project H.O.M.E., 1515 Fairmount Avenue
What does it mean that Jesus died for our sins? Was it necessary to placate the wrath of God with a blood sacrifice? Might there be other ways to interpret the crucifixion that reflect the meaning of the gospels? And how do we relate the resurrection to the other dying and rising gods of ancient mythology?
This will be a gathering of various Communities, Churches, Activist Groups, & Individuals from all over Philly. Come out and join us as we sing some songs, eat some grub, & conspire together to make Philly a web of subversive friends. Everyone is welcome! It will be a hispanic theme potluck, so bring some food to share!

A Justification for Redemptive Violence Or a Call to Gospel Nonviolence?
The death of Jesus is central to Christian life and thought, yet it has been frequently been misunderstood and misused. In many tragic ways, the cross of Christ has been seen as a kind of “redemptive violence,” and has been directly or indirectly used to vindicate and even bless human violence. By looking at the crucifixion of Jesus in its historical context, we will explore the question: Why did Jesus die? How is his death related to his ministry and witness in the Gospels? How did the early communities grasp his death, and how does it make us think differently about the Resurrection? We will reflect on how a more radical understanding of the passion of Christ can impact our discipleship, and particularly our efforts to witness to nonviolence in a violent world.
A great experience to begin the journey of Lent. A light breakfast will be served. A $10 donation is requested to cover costs (though if you can’t pay, please feel free to come anyway!).

Some of us have worked on Wall Street and some of us have slept on Wall Street. We are a community of struggle. Some of us are rich people trying to escape our loneliness. Some of us are poor folks trying to escape the cold. Some of us are addicted to drugs and others are addicted to money. We are a broken people who need each other and God… for we have come to recognize the mess that we have created of our world and how deeply we suffer from that mess—now we are working together to give birth to a society within the shell of the old.
The money for this Jubilee Celebration was formerly invested in the Stock Market.
Over $10,000 has been set free, poured out—
To be shared with our sisters and brothers in need.
This money belongs to the the poor, the workers, the refugees, the homeless…
to all those who have suffered most from the wreckage of the current system.
May we return it with joy, with our heads bowed in repentance,
And with our hearts lifted in Jubilee. The Mess We’ve Created
