Village House Details
The Village House is the name given to the current internship house of the Simple Way. Geographically, this is where it all began. A bunch of friends moving in to a house together to try and love God and love people, together. With intent.
And years later, although the vision and mission of the Simple Way has morphed as different people have joined and moved on, and as books have been published and a wider audience has been gained, the heart of the Village House is still being an intentional community loving God and trying to be good neighbors to those both near and far.
Dubbed
The Village People by virtue of living where we do, the interns balance working a 9 to 5 job at the Simple Way office [with different roles and job functions depending on training and gifting], with building relationships with each other and nurturing those in the local community as well as being involved in weekly rhythms of prayer, house meeting, formation and eating together.
Although exceptions have been made to accommodate exceptional circumstances, the internships currently entered into by the Village People are 18 months in length [and a similar distance in width] which has been chosen to create a decent time frame for connecting with local people and building deep friendships.
The Village House is directly connected to a room known as The Gathering which is a hub of Village House and Simple Way local community activity. This is where we meet Monday to Friday at 8am to pray together. It is the point of preparation and handing out of the food distribution we do on a Monday as well as the space for our after schools homework program which runs three afternoons a week. And it is the venue for amazing Potluck dinners that we often host on a Friday evening. And more.
