Jesus for President Book & DVD pack

by Shane Claiborne, Chris Haw

Books, DVDs

Jesus for President is a radical manifesto to awaken the Christian political imagination, reminding us that our ultimate hope lies not in partisan political options but in Jesus and the incarnation of the peculiar politic of the church as a people ‘set apart’ from this world. In what can be termed lyrical theology, Jesus for President poetically weaves together words and images to sing (rather than dictate) its message. It is a collaboration of Shane Claiborne’s writing and stories, Chris Haw’s reflections and research, and Chico Fajardo-Heflin’s art and design. Drawing upon the work of biblical theologians, the lessons of church history, and the examples of modern-day saints and ordinary radicals, Jesus for President stirs the imagination of what the Church could look like if it placed its faith in Jesus instead of Caesar. A fresh look at Christianity and empire, Jesus for President transcends questions of ‘Should I vote or not?’ and ‘Which candidate?’ by thinking creatively about the fundamental issues of faith and allegiance. It’s written for those who seek to follow Jesus, rediscover the spirit of the early church, and incarnate the kingdom of God. This pack also includes a DVD documenting the Summer 2008 Jesus for President Tour, with Chris Haw, ShaneClaiborne, and friends.

Peacemaking, War-Resistance, DVDs, Music CDs

With tears and laughter, Shane unveils the tragic realities of our fragile world and the incredible hope that “another world is possible.” Shane graduated from Eastern University, and did graduate work at Princeton Seminary. His adventures have been wild everything from a 10-week stint working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, to a year spent serving at the evangelical “mega-church” Willow Creek in verdant Chicago suburbs.

Shane spent 3 weeks in Baghdad with the Iraq Peace Team (a project of Voices in the Wilderness and Christian Peacemaker Teams) where he was a witness to military bombardment of Baghdad. As a member of IPT, Shane took daily trips to sites where there had been bombings, visited hospitals and famillies, and attended worship services during the war.

Another World Is Possible, Vol 3: Creation

by Shane Claiborne & Friends

Do It Yourself, DVDs, Music CDs

God took dirt and breathed life into it. And then there was humanity. Humanity took life and breathed dirt into it. And now we have a mess. We are made in the image of a Creator, and yet much of what we have created has made the rest of Creation groan for liberation. In this volume, a host of ordinary radicals invite us to think about what it means to care for the earth, and to be co-creators with a God of beauty rather than destruction. We will see toxic lots become gardens, trash turned into fashion show glamour, used vegetable oil become fuel for diesel engines—ugly things brought to life. There really is the sense that maybe, just maybe, conversion can mean that the world will look different than it does now. Maybe its too much fun for a single volume, but the big-top circus hits the inner city and a group of intergalactic superheroes visit earth & some young collaborative artists teach us why the prophets say that a child will lead us into the dreams of God. That’s what we’re talking about: Creation.

Economy of Love: Creating a Community of Enough
America thrives on a simple message-that what we currently have is not enough. Not big enough, not nice enough, not fast or hip enough.

The American Dream is based on wanting more. But does God’s dream for the world look like the American Dream?

In this five-week study, unpack what the patterns of God’s kingdom look like compared to the patterns of our world. What is the value of enough, and how do we become more like the God who is close to the poor, the hungry, the meek, and the merciful?

Economy of Love will challenge individuals to join in community, journeying together as they begin to considera new standard of living-a personal economic threshold oriented not around the size of a monthly paycheck, but around the value of enough.
